Sonic Ray

Trinity Buoy Wharf | Greenwich Peninsula, 30 September 2021 – 21 November 2021

Originally scheduled for 2020 and postponed due to the pandemic, Sonic Ray was commissioned by Artangel to mark the 20th anniversary of Longplayer.

The unique art experience, taking place on either end of the river, will illuminate London’s only lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf. There, the music of Longplayer will be encoded and transmitted as a powerful beam of green light and shone across the river Thames to Richard Wilson’s millennial sculpture Slice Of Reality.

Visitors can choose their starting point at either Trinity Buoy Wharf Lighthouse in Docklands or at sculptor Richard Wilson’s Slice of Reality on the Greenwich peninsula, travelling between the two locations on a short ride aboard a chartered riverboat – all part of the experience.

Sonic Ray is presented by Artangel as part of the Totally Thames Festival 2021 and can only be viewed after dark.
