Planning for Centuries: Longplayer Joins the WordPress 100 Year Plan

Ensuring the continuity of Longplayer has always required more than preserving a composition. It demands multi-generational stewardship, resilience in the face of technological change, and a commitment to maintaining access across centuries.

In July 2026, The Longplayer Trust took an important step towards securing its long-term digital future by migrating its primary website and web infrastructure to WordPress’s century-long managed hosting initiative, the 100 Year Plan. Designed to provide stable long-term domain and web hosting, the programme offers a valuable foundation for the ongoing preservation of Longplayer’s digital presence and accessibility.

As a project intended to continue playing for 1,000 years, Longplayer depends upon systems that can support extreme longevity and adaptability. The move to the 100 Year Plan strengthens the project’s ability to navigate changing technologies while maintaining a reliable home on the web for future generations.

This initiative was secured through our Founder, Jem Finer, and Alexander Rose of Rose Futures in California. Alexander is Director Emeritus of The Long Now Foundation and has been involved in long-term thinking and infrastructure projects for decades, including work on the Foundation’s mechanical 10,000 Year Clock.

The Longplayer Trust is grateful for the support of Rose Futures, The Long Now Foundation, and WordPress in helping to advance the long-term stewardship of a project designed to outlast any single generation.
